At Builders Mechanical, Inc. we have partnered with a third party to bring you an energy analysis that will serve as a key first step in making your home, business, more efficient by finding energy that is being wasted in the structure and identifying energy usage and costs.  This knowledge can then be implemented to increase building performance, lower costs and improve energy efficiency.  An energy analysis will give owners a record of their asset infrastructure.  Our energy analysis can then be used to identify short and long term ways to improve your home’s energy efficiency.  A benefit gained by implementing suggested improvements from our audit is a greener home or business.

What To Expect:

There are a few things to do when preparing for an energy analysis from Builders Mechanical, Inc.  It is a good idea to have the decision makers present during the analysis since education on building efficiency and energy usage is a large portion of this service.  The auditor will also have question to ask.

How to Prepare:

• The home, business, should be in normal operational mode
• Make a list of problems or areas of concern
• Unlock all interior and exterior doors, unlock attic door(s) with room in space to maneuver,  unlock any crawl space(s) access with room in space to maneuver
• Make sure all heating and cooling, supply and return grilles are uncovered and open
• Gather all utility bills for the last 12 months
• Make list by approximate date of any known repairs to your heating and cooling systems
• Please secure any pets, some doors may be open during the analysis process

What can I expect from a energy analysis?

The energy expert will complete an interview, evaluate the home, and provide a list of energy saving recommendations based on what is found.  The energy analysis takes the guesswork out of energy improvements by identifying previously unseen problems and providing both immediate and long term recommendations.

How long will the residential energy analysis take?

We recommend that you put aside 1 hour per 1000 sqft of space

Will the energy analysis include a thermo graphic infrared scan of the home?

No, this service is included in our complete energy audit, not the analysis.

What is a duct blaster test?

A Duct blaster test is conducted to find out if your ducts have leaks.  A duct blaster uses a fan to pressurize your ducts to a standard test and measure how much air flow it takes to reach that pressure.  The more air flow through the fan, the leakier the ducts.  This service is offered during our complete energy audit not the analysis.

Do I need to be present during the inspection?

It is a good idea to have the decision makers present during the analysis since education on building efficiency and energy usage is a large portion of this service.  The auditor will also have question to ask during the analysis.

Am I required to implement recommendations?

Absolutely not, the recommendations are the solutions to the areas of your home that are not as efficient as they could be as found in the energy analysis.  You can implement them all or just choose one.

Please feel free to contact our office after the analysis.  We will gladly help you with any questions you might have and with the list of recommendations that are provided with the report after your energy analysis.

How much does a residential energy analysis cost?

A Builders Mechanical, Inc. an energy analysis starts at $.13/sqft.  For homes outside of the greater Houston region there will be an additional charge for travel/mileage.
